Tye Fire Department urges drivers to slow down after motorist endangers firefighters

PHOTOS: The Tye Fire Department is reminding the community to slow down and use caution around emergency vehicles after crews’ lives were put in danger Tuesday afternoon. On September 23, TFD responded to two grass fires. The first, near North Access Road and North FM 707, was quickly contained. At 2:08 p.m., crews were called to a second fire along I-20 near mile marker 277.

The Tye Fire Department shared that during the response, a driver ignored traffic control, bypassing multiple Taylor County Sheriff’s Office vehicles and driving over safety cones set up to protect personnel on scene. “First responders were placed in serious danger… Please remember: when you see emergency lights, move over and slow down when approaching emergency vehicles. These measures are critical to ensuring the safety of both first responders and the community,” the Tye Fire Department shared.
