Structure fire contained by Temple Fire and Rescue before spreading to nearby homes

PHOTOS: Temple Fire and Rescue quickly contained a structure fire Saturday on S. 5th Street, ensuring no injuries occurred. The call came in at 1:30 p.m., and crews who arrived first encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a building behind the residence at 412 S. 5th St., according to Temple Fire and Rescue. Officials said the fire, which spread and caused additional damage to nearby fences, was controlled within ten minutes. Nobody was inside the affected structure, and no injuries were reported. Temple Fire and Rescue said seven fire units and 18 personnel were dispatched to the scene. The Temple Police Department and Temple EMS also responded to assist. The cause of the fire has not been released at this time.
