VIDEO: Several people were hurt in a 2-alarm fire at a west Houston apartment complex Wednesday morning, according to the Houston Fire Department. HFD said they were called to the complex on Olympia Drive near Westheimer and Beltway 8 at 8:33 a.m., and the first units arrived on scene within four minutes.
Strong winds fanned the flames that engulfed an entire building at the Corridor at Westchase apartments. The fire department said four people, including a firefighter, suffered from smoke inhalation, and one person had a non-fire-related injury.
Two of them were taken to area hospitals while the rest were treated on the scene. HFD said two people were able to escape the fire on their own by jumping from the second floor onto a couch put below by a quick-thinking maintenance crew. Two other people were rescued by firefighters.
