PHOTOS: A Madison County Sheriffโs Office Corporal responded to an unusual rescue call Thursday night: an owl wedged into the grill of a car. Unlike what often happens when a car strikes a bird, this one was alive. With help from Madisonville Fire and Rescue, Game Warden Rodgers and staff from the Madisonville Vet Clinic Corporal McIntyre saw the owl carefully freed.
The owl was to remain at the vet clinic overnight to receive any needed treatment then was expected to be transferred to a wildlife rehabilitation center that specializes in birds of prey. The Madison County Sheriffโs Office offered โ Big thanksโ to everyone who jumped in and gave the owl a second chance.
It was noted that a reality in wildlife rescue is that many owls struck by vehicles survive due to their dense feathering and flexible bodies. A Sheriffโs Office statement said quick rescue and professional care dramatically increase their odds, just like in Thursday nightโs case!
