VIDEO: The Nueces County Emergency Services District 2 will soon open a new fire station on Padre Island to enable a quicker response time to emergencies in the area. Currently ESD 2 operates a fire station in Flour Bluff where they offer fire rescue, water rescue, EMS and auto services. Their services extend to Padre Island but ESD2 Fire Chief Weston Beseda said the commute over to the Island hinders their response time. The new station will be located on 14725 Compass Street where a Christus Family Medicine Clinic currently stands. Beseda said the growth of Padre Island’s residential and commercial areas is the reason why now is the right time to build a new fire station on the island.
