Nacogdoches Fire Department seeks property for new station in final phase of $16.7M project

VIDEOS: The Nacogdoches Fire Department is moving into the next phase of its multi-million dollar project. Voters approved $16.7 million to build three new fire stations in 2023.

โ€œWeโ€™re looking at it from a needs standpoint. Thereโ€™s nothing fancy about this that is a โ€˜want.โ€™ Itโ€™s what we need to be able to continue providing service,โ€ said Assistant Fire Chief Michael Self. The city council approved $6.5 million last week to pay for the construction of new southern and northern stations. โ€œThree of our stations were built in the 1950s and have had major problems over time,โ€ said Self. The city purchased three acres on South Fredonia Street, relocating the station near South US Highway 59. โ€‹They are still searching for property for the new northern station. โ€œOnce the flyover is finished, it allows a faster response to the Harbor Oaks Subdivision and also getting into town quicker,โ€ said Self.
