VIDEOS: A multi-million dollar mansion-style home right off Benbrook Lake caught fire Wednesday morning after a “possible lightning strike,” according to the Fort Worth Fire Department. The FWFD said fire crews responded to the 10,000-square-foot home on Sanctuary Heights Road in Fort Worth at approximately 8:10 a.m. Wednesday.
When crews arrived, they saw a large home sitting well off the road with flames coming from the roof, FWFD said, and the flames were being fed by ruptured gas lines from inside the house. A partial collapse of the roof sent firefighters immediately out of the house, and they were forced to regroup before going back inside to battle the blaze, FWFD said. By 8:45 a.m., the fire was upgraded to a second alarm.
Then, after a Mayday was called when a firefighter fell through an elevator shaft, a third alarm was sounded. The Mayday was quickly canceled when he was located by other firefighters and brought outside to safety, according to FWFD. The FWFD said it took about 90 firefighters almost two full hours to bring this fire under control. There was one firefighter injury and no injuries to any of the residents, as they all made it out of the home. Chopper footage showed smoke billowing out of the home as crews continued to fight the fire.
