Mobile home fire claims lives of 2 Harlingen students

VIDEO: The Harlingen Fire Department is investigating a fire that claimed the lives of two girls on Sunday. Firefighters responded around 11:34 p.m. to the 500 block of Emerald Drive. According to Harlingen Fire Chief Rafael Balderas, two-thirds of the mobile home was already engulfed in flames.

The victims of the fire have been identified as two girls, an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old, ValleyCentral confirmed with the father. The girls were students of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District and were going to start the fifth and seventh grades this fall semester. “Harlingen CISD is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two of our student. Our hearts go out to their families, friends, and the entire school community during this difficult time,” HCISD Director of Guidance and Counseling Sylvia Gamboa said.
