Kilgore College hosts wildland firefighting course for firefighters from East Texas and beyond

VIDEO: Firefighters from East Texas and other states gathered in Kilgore Friday to complete a course teaching them the basics of wildland firefighting. Participants learned about the specifics of wildland firefighting as well as how to dig a fireline and how best to rescue a downed firefighter when in the wilderness. โ€œItโ€™s helped us,โ€ said Kilgore firefighter Brian Greene. โ€œHelped me be able to understand how to read the fire and understand the weather, whatโ€™s pushing the fire, the topography that weโ€™re going to be dealing with.โ€ Many of the participants are already firefighters but took the class to gain more skills to better help the communities of East Texas. โ€œI just recently graduated the fire academy, last week,โ€ said Lindale firefighter Jessica Wilkinson.ย
