Josephine city hires first paid fire chief due to increased growth

VIDEO: Increased call volumes and rapid growth have one North Texas city making major moves to better protect the community. Since 1975, the volunteer fire department has been the bedrock of this once quiet, sleepy little town called Josephine โ€” just northeast of Dallas.

โ€œSmall town growing cities are my niche as an administrator. So, I love the small towns, and I love to help get them to the next level,โ€ said Lisa Palomba, the Josephine city administrator. Palomba has been the city administrator for over four years and has seen the influx of new residents and developments. This made city leaders wake up to the fact that more had to be done to help this growing community. โ€œAt this time, weโ€™ve hired Joe Florentino from Little Elm, and heโ€™s got about 30-plus years of experience in public safety,โ€ said Palomba. Florentino is the first fire chief in Josephineโ€™s history.
