Huntington community repairs volunteer fire department roof for free

VIDEO: Like every firefighter, the volunteer firefighters at Huntington VFD would be the first people to run into burning buildings when lives are at risk. “We don’t consider ourselves first. We like to take care of the people first,” said Huntington VFD Chief Mike Wolfe. Now, the community that HVFD serves want to pay them back. The roof on the department is way past its lifespan. That’s why Huntington roofer Michael Paxton, along with help from the city, wants to fix the VFD’s roof free of charge. “We’re just always looking for an opportunity to give back. The golden rule is if you see a broken window, fix it,” said Paxton. Paxton says rot is what killed the roof, and a new one would cost the VFD over $20,000 to repair.
