The Belton Fire Department held its annual Awards Banquet at Dead Fish Grill this week, honoring members of the department and community. Numerous firefighters, officers and drivers/operators were recognized for their work at the event, receiving awards in a variety of categories. Jose Reyes-Rios was named Rookie of the Year. LJ Wissinger was named Firefighter of the Year, voted on by the Officers of Belton FD. Lt. Marty Tippit was selected as Officer of the Year by all of the firefighters and Drivers/Operators in the department. Lt. Carter Davis was presented the Fire Chief’s Award by Belton Fire Chief Jon Fontenot. The recipient of the award is chosen each year by the Fire Chief for their professionalism, dedication and the positive example they set for their peers, said Belton FD.
