Emergency crews knocked down a house fire in Northeast El Paso, fearing it would worsen and spread due to the winds whipping the Borderland Tuesday afternoon. According to the El Paso Fire Department, at around 2:46 p.m., a single-story home on the 8700 block of Echo Street caught fire, prompting 16 units and 32 firefighters to descend on the area and battle the blaze as the weather threatened to spread the flames to neighboring homes. A spokesperson with EPFD said no injuries were reported as they said they rescued two people, two dogs and one cat from the home unharmed. EPFD said El Paso Electric, as well as the Texas Gas Service, were called out to shut off service in the area. EPFD estimates that around 25 percent of the house suffered damage.
