A fire broke out in Liberty County Jail that forced inmates to be evacuated from part of the facility. According to Captain David Meyers with Liberty County, the fire started at around 9:20 p.m. Monday night. Authorities have not confirmed its origin, but they believe it may have been started by an inmate. The flames forced authorities to act fast, and somewhere between 30 and 50 inmates were quickly transported to a safer area in the jail. One corrections officer was transported to a local hospital due to smoke inhalation. His condition is not disclosed at this time, but sources indicated that he was taken as a precautionary measure. Firefighters rushed to the scene, and the fire has been put out at this time.
