Fire destroys house in Lufkin’s Crown Colony

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Lufkin Fire Department is investigating a fire that destroyed a home in the Crown Colony neighborhood. The department arrived at 11:35 a.m. on Thursday to the 2200 block of Champions drive.

There were 14 calls to dispatch according to the city’s public information officer Jacqueline Zimmerman. Sunanda Patel’s husband was one of them. “We didn’t know if someone was inside or what was going on. We try to help each other out when we can,” Patel said. He saw the smoke while sitting in his garage two houses down.

Lufkin Fire Marshal Ozzie Jarmon said the smoke could be seen miles away. “As soon as we got the call, we could see the plume of smoke from downtown,” Jarmon said. Jarmon said the house was fully engulfed when they got there. No one was home and no injuries were reported. “The whole house was burning,” Jarmon said. “The radiated heat and flames had reached the house to one side of it and cars that were in the driveway.”
