Fire caused by possible lightning strike damages Grand Prairie home, officials say

VIDEO: The roof of a Grand Prairie home was significantly damaged in a fire Wednesday that officials say may have been caused by a lightning strike. According to the Grand Prairie Fire Department, crews responded to a structure fire in the 2400 block of Lakewood Drive around 2:52 p.m. Cedar Hill fire crews also responded to provide mutual aid, officials say.

GPFD said firefighters initially went into “fast attack,” but then moved to a more defensive plan as the fire pushed out from the attic. Chopper footage of the scene showed a significantly damaged roof of the home with large portions appearing to have caved in. Fire officials believe the fire may have started from a lightning strike to the top of the home. GPFD said no injuries were reported in this fire.
