Father, son hailed as heroes after rescuing children from Jones County fire

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A father and son are being called heroes after jumping into action when they spotted a fire near a home in Jones County โ€” a decision they say likely saved lives. Richard Howeth and his son, James Howeth, were driving through the area Tuesday when James noticed flames in the distance.

โ€œMy son said, โ€˜Dad, thereโ€™s a fire,โ€™โ€ Richard Howeth said. โ€œAnd I thought maybe somebody was burning brush or something. Then we drove up, got right here, and he said, โ€˜Dad, thatโ€™s a house fire.โ€™โ€

The two pulled over near a trailer as flames spread quickly across the land behind it. They immediately called 911 and began doing whatever they could to slow the fire until help arrived.

โ€œSo we were trying to hook up water hoses and everything, and the water had been disconnected to the RV thatโ€™s back there,โ€ Richard Howeth said.
