Dozens of cars derail near Gordon, sparking grassfires; No HAZMAT leaks found

VIDEO: Dozens of train cars jackknifed and collided with each other when a freight train left the tracks west of Fort Worth Tuesday afternoon, setting off several grass fires. The Palo Pinto County ESD told NBC 5 that rescue crews were called to the Coalville Road Bridge at about 2 p.m. after 35 railcars left the tracks about two miles east of Gordon.

Among the debris, more than a dozen crumpled freight and tanker cars were seen stacked on top of each other. No injuries were reported and all personnel had been accounted for, officials said. No evacuations were ordered, but in a post on X, the Palo Pinto County ESD asked people to stay away from the derailment as first responders manage a “potentially hazardous situation.” ESD officials said Tuesday afternoon that Union Pacific HAZMAT personnel had arrived at the scene and found no hazardous material leaks.
