PHOTO: The home of a Smith County couple was destroyed on Monday night. According to Nikki Simmons, PIO for Smith County ESD 2, the fire began on South Bay Drive in Emerald Bay with one of the coupleโs vehicles. One was in the garage, and one in the driveway. The fire quickly spread to the attic of the home, eventually destroying the roof and most of the rest of the structure. Simmons said that Smith County ESD engines 166, 161, and 156 responded. Bullard Volunteer Fire Department responded, as well. Firefighters could be seen digging through debris to try to salvage personal belongings, such as photo albums, for the residents. The fire was brought under control, and firefighters remained at the scene watching for areas that might rekindle. No injuries were reported.
