Corpus Christi FD contains recycling plant fire, no injuries reported

VIDEO: The Corpus Christi Fire Department responded to a blaze Friday at a recycling plant off Highway 44, near the Corpus Christi International Airport. The fire broke out in a large pile of debris, prompting a complex response due to the pileโ€™s density.

Fire crews coordinated with the company to use heavy equipment to carefully pull the debris apart to access the core of the fire. โ€œGiven the nature of the incident, you know, it’s a large pile of debris, so those are already difficult to get to the seed of those fires,โ€ said Captain Patrick Frost. โ€œWe also want to make sure we did a thorough job. We worked with the company here to use their heavy equipment to pull piles of that debris out, and as they pulled piles out, we were able to get deeper and deeper into the seed of that fire and extinguish and cool what they had pulled out.โ€

Mutual aid responders from Annaville assisted with the response. No injuries were reported. Fire crews remained on scene for several hours to monitor the area and ensure the fire was fully extinguished, preventing any chance of reignition.
