VIDEO: The City of Copperas Cove has named its Interim Fire Chief, David Bailey. Bailey began his contract employment with the City of Copperas Cove on Sept. 30, the City said, and has spent his first month “familiarizing himself with the organization” in preparation to lead the department.

Bailey will reportedly serve in the role until a new full-time Fire Chief is selected. Bailey is a native Texan who was born in Waco and has lived in Central Texas since 1976, the City said.

He has Associates Degrees in Fire Protection Technology and Criminal Justice from Austin Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Management from St. Edward’s University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Texas State University.

The City of Copperas Cove said Bailey has earned numerous Fire and EMS certifications over his 40-year career, and has “extensive experience in all aspects of the Fire service.” The City said Bailey has worked at departments ranging from large municipal departments to small combination departments, and has worked with numerous local governments at the state and local levels.
