Community rallies to help Skidmore firefighter get prosthetic leg after tragic accident

VIDEO: A firefighter who helped battle the Silver Creek Fire Thursday is now receiving support himself as the community rallies to raise money for his prosthetic leg. Skidmore Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Brandon Smith lost his left leg in an accident last year. “We were building a fence and a tractor implement swept me up with a chain-link fence and took my leg off,” he said. After the accident, Smith continues to give his role as Captain his best. A dedication noticed by the department as they have been fundraising to help get him a prosthetic leg. “These guys really want to see me back and up at action,” he said. The cost of the prosthetic ranges between $30-40,000. Smith said the tool would help give him back a sense of normalcy.
