The City of Longview announced an interim fire chief for the Longview Fire Department Friday. Assistant Chief Andy Parker will take on the role after Friday as Chief J.P. Steelman retires from the position, concluding 35 years of service, according to a city release. “I have the utmost confidence in the department’s ability to continue to provide vital fire protection and EMS services during this time,” City Manager Rolin McPhee said in the release. “We appreciate Assistant Chief Parker for being willing to serve the department as interim fire chief.” The city said they are continuing a nationwide search for the department’s next permanent fire chief.
