Austin firefighter injured after fire reported at Domain

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A firefighter was injured after crews with the Austin Fire Department responded to a fire at Domain in north Austin, said Thayer Smith, AFD assistant chief of operations, during a media briefing Tuesday.

Around 12:45 p.m., AFD crews responded to a report of smoke at an apartment at the Domain, which was โ€œemanating smoke around the Louis Vuitton storeโ€ at 11600 Century Oaks Terrace, Smith said. The fire was upgraded to a second alarm around 1:28 p.m. and then a third-alarm response around 2:46 p.m., Thayer said.

He said this happened, because the fire was โ€œvery difficult to accessโ€ with there being residential areas and stores in the building. โ€œCrews continues to find fire both above, below and to the sides of them in this residential space on the second and third floors of this particular building,โ€ Thayer said. โ€œThatโ€™s why it was so manpower intensive โ€” to get enough crews to the scene, to evacuate the stores, evacuate the apartments and then make access to the fire.โ€
