90,000 gallons of water used to put out large hay bale fire in Abilene

PHOTOS: Hundreds of hay bales caught fire and multiple fire crews used over 90,000 gallons of water to put the fire out. According to the Abilene Fire Department, they received the call just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday outside of Abilene city limits, near 150 US Hwy 83-84.

When crews arrived on scene, they saw a metal barn engulfed in flames with multiple round hay bales on fire. AFD and the Buffalo Gap Volunteer Fire Department worked together for roughly four hours to put the fire out.

After AFD was released, Buffalo Gap VFD remained on scene overnight to monitor the area.
