9 McKinney firefighters injured while battling house fire, FD says

VIDEO: Nine firefighters were transported to local hospitals while responding to a structure fire in McKinney Saturday night, the fire department said. McKinney Fire Department officials said all firefighters were released Sunday morning and are OK.

Around 9:11 p.m. Saturday, firefighters were called to a two-story residence near the 7400 block of Joshua Tree Trail, just south of Gabe Nesbitt Park. Officials said the caller reported the fire was coming from a bedroom. McKinney FD Truck 11 was first on the scene. Crews on Truck 11 reported seeing thick smoke from the residence and began an “aggressive interior attack,” the department said. While battling the fire, a firefighter from Truck 11 became disoriented and low on air while inside the residence, the FD said. A mayday was sent and other firefighters removed the injured firefighter from the structure.
