6 hospitalized after DART train catches fire near downtown Dallas tunnel, passengers evacuate

VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Six passengers on a DART train were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after an electric light rail train caught fire outside a tunnel near the downtown Pearl/Arts District Station, Dallas Fire-Rescue says.

DFR confirmed they were called at 3:38 p.m. to a fire on a train near Ross Avenue and Central Expressway. They said they treated nine people at the scene and hospitalized six. Issues varied from breathing difficulty to minor burns. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening. Video and photos shared with NBC 5 showed what looked like power flashes and smoke coming from the tunnel and people running up the tracks, away from the train. โ€œI just ran up and I just saw the back of the train. I saw smoke, heard the electricity popping and everything like that and I ran up and I saw the back half of the train, it was all on fire and there was a bunch of flames,โ€ said witness Mario Aldrete.
