18-wheeler carrying beef brisket catches on fire along I-35 near Jarrell

VIDEO/PHOTOS: An 18-wheeler carrying boneless beef brisket caught on fire along I-35 between Jarrell and Georgetown Tuesday morning, causing significant traffic delays. Around 5 a.m., Jarrell Fire/Rescue responded to the commercial vehicle fire in the northbound lanes just south of the Ronald Reagan Boulevard bridge.

According to the department, the truck driver had pulled over to check a possible problem with the trailer when he discovered a fire in the brakes. The rear of the trailer was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Crews worked quickly to control the fire. No injuries were reported. Video captured by a driver shows the 18-wheeler after the flames were extinguished. It was significantly damaged. The truck was on its way to Canada, fire officials said. The Texas Department of Transportation initially closed all northbound lanes at Ronald Reagan Boulevard but later reopened the left lane while keeping two main lanes and the right shoulder closed.
