PHOTOS: One person was killed, and three burned, during an explosion at Panhandle Milling in Dawn. About 3:30 a.m., the Hereford Fire Department and Hereford EMS were requested to respond to the plant located in the 4800 block of FM 809 for an industrial accident involving a building explosion.
According to Hereford Fire Marshal Todd Murray, one building was found to be partially collapsed. Additional resources were requested from the Hereford Police Department, Deaf Smith County Sheriffโs office, Dawn Fire Department, Dimmitt EMS, TDEM, BSA, AMR, and Amarillo Fire Department. Three victims were transported to area hospitals with burn injuries from the explosion. A fourth victim — 36-year-old Melissa Mungia — was found in the collapsed building about 6 a.m. Her body was extricated by Amarillo Fire Department at approximately 7:30 am. She leaves behind three daughters. Mungia’s family is asking for “non-stop prayers.”
