Tri-Cities 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb draws 700 to Bristol track

VIDEO/PHOTOS: About 700 people walked the equivalent of 110 stories in the stairwells and stands of Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday morning. It was for the benefit of fallen firefighters. The 11th annual fundraising event, with proceeds going to help fallen firefighters and their families, also was so folks would “never forget” what happened two dozen years ago next week.

The 2025 Tri-Cities 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event was to honor and remember firefighters and other emergency responders who lost their lives trying to help others in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda. The 110 stories was what some of the Fire Department of New York firefighters climbed in trying to help evacuate the Twin Towers in New York. Two hijacked planes crashed into the side of the skyscrapers that day, part of a plane attack also on the Pentagon in northern Virginia. A fourth plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field after passengers thwarted that hijacking attempt.
