VIDEO/PHOTOS: A large fire broke out at a single-family two-story home early Wednesday morning in the Shelby Forest area, according to Shelby County Fire. Fire crews say they responded to the home around 5:40 a.m. in the 5600 block of North Watkins Street. When they arrived, they say the fire was 75% evolved.
The first order of business was to cut through a secured entrance, as they lost several minutes working to gain access through the locked metal gate. Photos captured by WREG crews showed the fire just behind some trees in the long driveway of the home. Four engines responded to the scene with at least two dozen firefighters, the fire department says. The fire was under control within an hour after the call. No injuries were reported. “It’s a really tight-knit community, everybody, if you know everybody, you know everybody,” said Jerrod Love, who lives nearby. “To see this man, it’s mind-blowing for sure. I wanted to check on them to make sure they were alright.”
