One Injured After Fire at Knoxville Apartment Complex

PHOTOS: One person was injured in a fire at Spring Meadows Apartments in Knoxville on Monday. On Tuesday, the Knoxville Fire Department said unattended cooking on a stove top had caused the fire. โ€œCooking fires remain the most common cause of home fires in the nation and locally,โ€ KFD wrote.

Knox County Emergency Communications District received a 911 call at 4:57 p.m. reporting smoke from a second-floor apartment at the apartment complex on Washington Ridge Way. It was quickly put out by firefighters, with KFD posting that the fire was extinguished at 5:15 p.m.

Building management and maintenance personnel unsuccessfully attempted to rescue a male who was injured in the apartment. He was evaluated and transported to a local hospital.

Nine people and several animals were displaced from the building and assisted by the American Red Cross. Crews previously responded to a fire in a different building of the complex earlier this year on May 12.
