Memphis firefighter killed in motorcycle crash on I-240, union says

VIDEO: A veteran Memphis firefighter died following a motorcycle accident Sunday night. Three people have been charged after two cars drove into the scene while police were investigating following the deadly crash.

FOX13 has learned more about the man killed, who had served his community for decades. The president of the Memphis Fire Fighters Association said the scene at I-240 and Getwell Road was an especially difficult one for them when they realized the victim was one of their own. Gary White served the Memphis Fire Department for 27 years and had more years of service ahead of him. “I’m sure, you know, he was not in a hurry to retire. He had 27 years. He was still very, very good at his job. So we can always sit around and wonder why. But, I guess you say there’s a reason for everything, you know? And this was just, it’s, it’s hard on our troops,” said Thomas Malone, president of the Memphis Fire Fighters Association. Malone said White was a husband, father, dedicated firefighter and Army veteran who also had a passion for motorcycles.
