Memphis Fire Department announces new assistant fire chief

VIDEO: The Memphis Fire Department announced a new Assistant Fire Chief of Operations. Kenneth Newton joined MFD in 1992 where he rose through the ranks as Fire Inspector, Fire Lieutenant, Battalion Chief and Division Chief.

During his career, he has guided recruit classes to graduation, expanded professional development programs, and modernized training tools. MFD says he also supported the cityโ€™s emergency response to COVID-19.

As a lifelong Memphian, MFD says he is โ€œwidely respected for his steady leadership style, his commitment to mentorship, and his dedication to the community he calls home.โ€

Newton earned a Bachelor of Science in Management and Organizational Development from Bethel University. Newton replaces Colin Burress, who was recently promoted to the Chief position.
