Memphis Fire Chief Gina Sweat retires after 33 years with department

Memphis Fire Chief Gina Sweat retired on Tuesday after 33 years with the department, a spokeswoman confirmed Thursday. The department did not further elaborate on her retirement. According to her official biography, Chief Sweat joined MFD as a firefighter in 1992 and rose up the ranks from there. Her roles included as a Driver, Lieutenant, Battalion Chief and Division Chief. She became the department’s fire chief in 2016.
