VIDEO: Kingsport Fire Department (KFD) is participating in Fire Prevention Week to help keep residents safe and informed. The theme for this yearโs Fire Prevention Week is โCharge into Fire Safetyโข: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.โ
โA lot of people may not think they have lithium batteries in their home, but a lot of you do, and especially if you have a cell phone, maybe an electric razor, toothbrush, anything thatโs rechargeable nowadays has a lithium ion battery in it,โ KFD Community Risk Reduction Specialist Barry Brickey said. โWe need to make sure theyโre in good working order because they can quickly cause a fire if theyโre damaged or if theyโre overcharged.โ
Various events are planned through Oct. 11 for Fire Prevention Week, including smoke alarm checks, kidsโ night at Chick-fil-A, station tours and more.
โTonight [Monday] weโre going to be going with Dominoโs and some people may win their pizza after they order it,โ Brickey said. โWeโre going with Dominoโs on Center Street down here, and when we go to the home that has ordered the pizza, if they have working smoke alarms, they will get their pizza for free.โ
