Kingsport Fire Department participating in National Fire Prevention Week

VIDEO: Kingsport Fire Department (KFD) is participating in Fire Prevention Week to help keep residents safe and informed. The theme for this yearโ€™s Fire Prevention Week is โ€œCharge into Fire Safetyโ„ข: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.โ€

โ€œA lot of people may not think they have lithium batteries in their home, but a lot of you do, and especially if you have a cell phone, maybe an electric razor, toothbrush, anything thatโ€™s rechargeable nowadays has a lithium ion battery in it,โ€ KFD Community Risk Reduction Specialist Barry Brickey said. โ€œWe need to make sure theyโ€™re in good working order because they can quickly cause a fire if theyโ€™re damaged or if theyโ€™re overcharged.โ€

Various events are planned through Oct. 11 for Fire Prevention Week, including smoke alarm checks, kidsโ€™ night at Chick-fil-A, station tours and more.

โ€œTonight [Monday] weโ€™re going to be going with Dominoโ€™s and some people may win their pizza after they order it,โ€ Brickey said. โ€œWeโ€™re going with Dominoโ€™s on Center Street down here, and when we go to the home that has ordered the pizza, if they have working smoke alarms, they will get their pizza for free.โ€
