Gatlinburg swears in new fire chief, promotes new lieutenant

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The City of Gatlinburg has sworn in its new Fire Chief David Grey and promoted Lieutenant Kandra McCarter. The swearing-in ceremony for Gray and McCarter was held Monday morning, formally recognizing both for their new leadership roles in the Gatlinburg Fire Department. In late 2025, Gray was announced as the new Gatlinburg Fire Chief, following the retirement of Chief Charlie Cole.

Gray officially began serving as the new chief on January 3. Gray previously served as the Assistant Chief of Knoxville Fire Department. He brings experience from his service in fire and emergency medical service.

โ€œChief Gray brings to this position a strong dedication to the fire service and a clear understanding of the unique responsibilities that come with serving in a destination city like Gatlinburg,โ€ City Manager Greg Patterson said. โ€œWe are confident that under his leadership, the Gatlinburg Fire Department will continue to provide professional, reliable, and compassionate service.โ€
