Fire in Memphis damages two homes, causes $74K in losses

A fire early Tuesday morning in the Alcy-Ball neighborhood damaged two homes and caused $74,000 in losses, according to the Memphis Fire Department (MFD). The fire was ruled as accidental.

MFD said that firefighters responded early Tuesday to a fire at a home on McRae Road off East Alcy Road and saw smoke and flames coming the living room. Though there were people inside the home at the time of the fire, no one was injured, MFD said.

The main home that was damaged lost $30,000 in property and $9,000 in contents, MFD said. A home next door also sustained exposure damage and lost $20,000 in property and $15,000 in contents.

Memphis Light, Gas and Water told FOX13 that crews responded to a ruptured gas line at a home on McRae Road off East Alcy Road. “There was an active fire when crews arrived on scene,” the utility company said in a statement.
