Crews save person trapped 70 feet inside Murfreesboro stormwater drain

VIDEO/PHOTOS: First responders rescued someone who was trapped dozens of feet inside a stormwater drain in Murfreesboro. The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department posted on Facebook just after 1 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 that it responded to the incident along Pennington Drive the night before. Crews quickly located the person, who was stuck about 70 feet inside the drain.

According to officials, personnel entered the drain and reached the trapped individual within minutes, but additional units were called out to help with the rescue. Firefighters said they found a drain opening closer to the person and determined it was the safest method for removal.

Crews carefully pulled the individual out with ropes, using air monitors during the operation to make sure it was safe for both the patient and the first responders inside the drain. After the person was removed from the drain, Rutherford County EMS took the individual to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries, officials reported. No additional details have been released about this incident.
