VIDEO: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Overton County Fire Department after a 3-year-old died following a house fire on Tuesday. The EMA/EMS Director for Overton County told News 2 the fire happened around 9:51 a.m. along Rickman Monterey Highway.
First responders were able to rescue the toddler from the home, and the child was taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center after suffering from smoke inhalation. The child died at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
A mother and a 7-week-old child were also rescued from the home and taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center, where they remain in stable condition. Additionally, a firefighter and a deputy were treated for injuries they sustained while trying to rescue individuals.
