VIDEOS: A portion of I-40 near Lakeland was shut down Wednesday morning after an 18-wheeler crashed and then caught on fire. This happened in the westbound lanes of I-40 between Highway 64 and Canada Road. Deena Chute was driving her husband to work when the crash happened.
“It was just like, a flash of light, but we didn’t really know what we were seeing at first,” Chute told FOX13. “The flames were like going up into the trees. It was on the cab. It was like the whole cab had been taken over by the flames.” Chute said she and her husband didn’t initially know what happened. She thought the flash of light was initially construction crews. It wasn’t until she got closer to the scene that she realized what had happened. “The driver’s door was open, but we couldn’t see anybody standing outside,” said Chute.
