Watertown Fire Rescue Assists in Complex Extrication on Bridge Crash

Watertown Fire Rescue responded to an ambulance intercept request for a complex vehicle extrication involving a half-ton pickup that had rolled onto its side and was leaning over a bridge. A bridge beam had penetrated the passenger compartment, trapping the driver along with several structural components of the vehicle.

Medic 4 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to assist the Estelline Fire Department with extrication operations and patient care. Performance Towing provided critical support by stabilizing the pickup during the rescue. The Deuel County Sheriffโ€™s Office, a deputy, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control throughout the incident.

The patient was successfully extricated from the vehicle and transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
