VIDEO: Hundreds of Wasta community members made their way to the grand opening of the new Wasta Volunteer Fire Department fire station. Wasta Fire Chief Kyle Schell said the town of Wasta is growing, and with the fire departmentโs previous station being an old pull barn in need of improvements, they decided to start from scratch.
The department broke ground on the new station last Fourth of July. Pennington County Commissioners gave a $500,000 donation and additional fundraisers by the department helped fund the project. Pennington County Sheriff Brian Mueller said the county partnered together to help build four fire stations.
โThe partnership between law enforcement and our volunteer firefighters is pretty amazing in this part of the state here in Pennington County and Meade County,โ Mueller said. โWe could not do what we do to keep our citizens and visitors safe without the amazing work that they do.โ
The grand opening also coincided with the annual Wasta Volunteer Fire Department steak feed and chicken bingo to raise funds for the department.
