Emergency crews responded to a fire at the Covered Wagon RV Park on Sturgis Road in Piedmont Tuesday morning, where deputies discovered an RV fully engulfed in flames. The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. Firefighters from Piedmont Fire and EMS and the Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Department worked quickly to contain the flames, preventing further damage to nearby structures.
During the response, witnesses informed authorities that the RVโs resident, a woman identified as Darian Johnson of Piedmont, had been seen driving erratically in the area. Deputies located her vehicle still at the scene, but Johnson refused to exit when ordered. After being removed from the vehicle, Johnson showed signs of impairment. She was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, 2nd Offense and taken to Meade County Jail. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
