Rapid City Fire Station One getting a new look in the summer

VIDEO: The Rapid City Fire Departmentโ€™s Station One, on the corner of East Boulevard and Main Street, will have a fresh look very soon. A new design for Station One has been a reality since 2021. Construction broke ground in January 2023 and the departmentโ€™s fire chief, Jason Culberson, said they havenโ€™t experienced a lot of setbacks during construction.

The station was originally about 19,000 square feet and a single story. The building will now be three stories and just under 40,000 square feet once the remodeling and construction is completed. Some of the new features include dorm rooms, a fire pole, weight room and a remodeled kitchen. The station will also include additional office and meeting space.

โ€œWe needed to expand so we could have the folks that needed to be here, here,โ€ said Culberson. โ€œAnd also give appropriate spaces for our operations staff.โ€ Culberson said the building will include a bunker locker room with each firefighter having their own area. He hopes construction for Station One will be completed by mid-July.
