VIDEO: The Rapid City Fire Departmentโs Station One, on the corner of East Boulevard and Main Street, will have a fresh look very soon. A new design for Station One has been a reality since 2021. Construction broke ground in January 2023 and the departmentโs fire chief, Jason Culberson, said they havenโt experienced a lot of setbacks during construction.
The station was originally about 19,000 square feet and a single story. The building will now be three stories and just under 40,000 square feet once the remodeling and construction is completed. Some of the new features include dorm rooms, a fire pole, weight room and a remodeled kitchen. The station will also include additional office and meeting space.
โWe needed to expand so we could have the folks that needed to be here, here,โ said Culberson. โAnd also give appropriate spaces for our operations staff.โ Culberson said the building will include a bunker locker room with each firefighter having their own area. He hopes construction for Station One will be completed by mid-July.
