Lead Fire Department receives $10,000 holiday donation

The Lead Volunteer Fire Department is set to receive a $10,000 donation from Coeur Wharf this holiday season as part of the mining company’s effort to recognize local emergency response and public safety teams. The check presentation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Lead Volunteer Fire Department. Community members are invited to attend, meet volunteer firefighters, and learn more about the department’s role in protecting the region.

The donation is one of several initiatives Coeur Wharf has planned to honor firefighters across the Black Hills. Volunteer fire departments provide most of the fire protection in the area, often operating with limited resources and requiring significant personal sacrifice.

The Lead Volunteer Fire Department has served the community for more than 14 years, responding to about 300 emergency calls annually. Recent milestones include acquiring its first ladder truck and vacuum tanker truck and beginning a transition to paid staff for the first time since the late 1990s.
