First responders hold mass casualty training in Box Elder

In an open field on the east side of Box Elder, Firefighters, police officers, and EMTs gathered Saturday morning to do a simulation training to prepare them for a real-life scenario of a car accident.

โ€œYou got people out here screaming, looking for a lost child. We got some of them that are acting like theyโ€™re literally you know taking their last breath. Some of them are walking wounded. So, we got a variety of patients, and itโ€™s as real as itโ€™s going to getโ€ Rockerville Volunteer Fire Chief Gail Schmidt said.

These volunteers who played roles as patients were involved with two cars colliding together and a school bus with kids that ended up rolling over because of trying to avoid the two-car collision. The training showed the victims in minor and major conditions. Some even ended up dead or missing. This training happens every two years to prepare first responders for extreme incidents.
