When the owners of Earthscapes got the call last night, they rushed to their shop, but there was nothing they could do. Chris Meyers and Shane Freeborn were on site surveying the damage today. Fire destroyed their shop building and just about everything inside. “A lot of our small tools and hand tools, fortunately, nobody was in there, we had most of our equipment out to another shop,” said Meyers. Right now the top priority is restoring their water supply by mid-April. At Earthscapes, they grow thousands of perennials, shrubs and ornamental trees every year at this site south of Brandon, and the fire destroyed the power source to their well. It’s never a good time to have a fire, but the owners do tell me had this happened a month or two later it would have been more devastating. “We would have had more equipment in our building and more just supplies and things like that,” said Freeborn.
