Fast action stops vehicle fire from spreading to Rapid City home

A quick response by Rapid City firefighters keeps a vehicle fire from spreading to a home. Around 8:30 Monday morning a plume of smoke was visible across much of the city when a camper caught fire in the 200 block of East Watertown Street. The RV was occupied with everyone getting out safely.

Firefighters tell NewsCenter1 they were able to keep the fire contained to the RV but not without some challenges. RCFD Battalion Chief Calen Maningas says, “The vehicle is actually behind the residence, next to a fence with other vehicles and yard debris in the way. So they did encounter some difficulties while attacking the spire, but like I said, they had a very quick response.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation. RCPD helped with traffic flow during the firefighting effort.
