Dog dies in Sioux Falls apartment fire

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to an apartment fire this morning. It happened just before 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, in the 400 block of South Thomson Avenue, according to a news release. First arriving units found smoke coming from a single apartment on the first level of the building. Fire crews entered the apartment to extinguish the fire. A search of the apartment confirmed there were no residents inside at the time.

The fire was contained to the apartment of origin and put out within five minutes of arrival. Crews remained on scene afterwards to monitor the apartment. There were no civilian or responder injuries, however, a pet dog died as a result of the fire.ย The cause of the fire remains under investigation.ย
